7/2/2008 4:13:00 PM | The Acting Executive Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Sierra Leone, Michael Schulenburg, on Saturday 28 June decorated 28 military and police personnel serving in the United Nations Integrated Office in Sierra Leone (UNIOSIL). The medal parade was held at the fore court of UNIOSIL headquarters, Mammy Yoko Hotel, Aberdeen in Freetown.
7/1/2008 4:13:00 PM | The Acting Executive Representative of the Secretary-General, Michael Schulenburg interacted with female aspirants contesting the 5 July Local Government Election at the Kono Town Hall during his maiden tour of the provinces from the 24-27 June to assess the state of preparedness for the election. The ERSG was accompanied by representatives of the United States Embassy, the British High Commission; the Nigerian High Commission; and Ghanaian High Commissions. Mr. Michael Schulenburg and entourage held wide raging discussions with a broad spectrum of local and national actors on the forthcoming Local Government Election. These included regional Ministers of Government; Councilors; representatives of Political Parties; officials of the National Electoral Commission (NEC) and Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC); Women Candidates; Youth Groups; Civil Society; the Police and the Army; as well as the District Code Monitoring Committees of the Political Parties Code of Conduct, in Kono, Bo, Kenema and Makeni.

6/9/2008 10:28:00 AM | On Wednesday 4 June 2008, the newly appointed Head of the UN in Sierra Leone in his capacity as Acting Executive Representative of the Secretary-General, Michael Schulenberg of Germany was received by H.E. President Ernest Bai Koroma at State House, where they held close door discussions on issues ranging from peacebuilding to the up-coming Local Government Election in Sierra Leone.

Ambassador Frank Majoor, ( 3rd left) Chairman of the Sierra Leone Country Specific Meeting, outlined the Commission’s findings and impressions of Government’s efforts in the implementation of the Peacebuilding Cooperation Framework at a well-attended Press Briefing chaired by the Minister of Information and Communication, Ibrahim Ben Kargbo (center) on 5 June at Youyi Building in Freetown.
6/5/2008 9:30:00 AM | The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon has appointed Cameroonian national, Mr. Samuel Nyambi, as Acting Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sierra Leone. This appointment follows the departure of the previous Resident Representative, Mr. Victor Angelo, who now head’s the UN mission in Chad and the Central African Republic (MINURCAT). Mr. Nyambi assumed his duties at UNDP in Freetown on Friday, 23 May 2008. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Nyambi served as Senior Development Coordinator, promoting development work and providing development support and services to the UN in South Africa.
6/3/2008 3:04:00 PM | On 3 June 2008, the visiting high-level delegation of the UN Peacebuilding Commission headed by the Chairman of the Commission, H.E. Ambassador Frank Majoor (center) was updated by Officials of Sierra Leone’s electoral bodies - National Electoral Commission (NEC) and the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) – on preparations and challenges of the up-coming Local Council Election at the headquarters of the United Nations Integrated Office in Sierra Leone (UNIOSIL). Earlier, the Commission met with the newly appointed Acting Executive Representative of the Secretary-General, Mr. Michael Schulenberg.
