The United Nations Stance on Human Security
The United Nations takes human security very seriously. Human security is defined as the protection of "the vital core of all human lives in ways that enhance human freedoms and fulfillment." The United Nations wants to protect the fundamental freedoms of all individuals through Human Security.
To the United Nations human security is much more than the absence of violent conflict. It encompasses human rights, good governance and access to economic opportunity, education and health care. It is a concept that addresses both "freedom from fear" and "freedom from want" and is bases on a foundation that emphasizes both protection and empowerment.
